Before the Saddening Demise, Ed Budde Once Joined Hands With Son Brad Budde fora Special Announceme

Today has been bleak for the Kansas City Chiefs as they lost their expert left guard, Ed Budde. The people of Kansas City loved Budde, 83. He was also one of the Kansas City Ambassadors. The franchise CEO, Clark Hunt, got sentimental after this event and issued a statement on the team’s website. Budde’s 14-year career with the Chiefs led them to a Super Bowl win and a couple of divisional championships.

Some interesting facts about his family have shown up after his demise. His son, Brad Budde, had a brief run with the Chiefs; however, the story behind his career is heartwarming.

Brad Budde, carrying his father Ed Budde’s legacy forward

Ed Budde is survived by his three children, a daughter and two sons. One of his sons, Brad Budde, also played the same position for the Chiefs as his father. The exciting thing about this family is that this father-son duo was drafted in the same franchise, in the exact draft pick, the first round. The son Brad played with the Chiefs for seven years, between 1980 and 1986. The father-son duo rocked the same number on their jerseys, 71!

Brad Budde was the 11th overall pick for the Chiefs in the first NFL draft of 1980 out of USC. He started 79 games for the Chiefs during his 1980-1986 career. His father, Ed Budde, was the 8th overall pick for the KC Chiefs in 1963 and played 177 games for the franchise, leading them to a Super Bowl win in 1970 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Brad Budde grew around the Chiefs, propelling him to become an All-American at USC. Again, they became the only father-son duo to be drafted in the same team, at the same position and draft pick. Before his demise, the duo took the stage to announce some of the most influential recruits in the second round of the 2023 draft picks on Day 2.

More achievements of Ed Budde

Ed became one of the most valuable members of the Chiefs’ roster as he led them to win two AFL championships, one in 1966 and the other in 1969. During his 14-year career with the Chiefs, he was selected for the Pro Bowl seven times.

This was the first and only time a father-son duo was known to make such an impact on the sport of football. May he Rest In Peace.
